IF you were in charge, how would you change your neighborhood.

                  If I could charge my neighborhood I would charge everything such like the drugs use the shooting and killing in the kensington neighborhood.

An elementary school in Kensington John Moffet has started an after school program.Moffet has been able to maintain an after-school program that focuses on enriching students through art and music education.

The ones who got into the game in their teenage years, served a few stints in prison, and by some statistical miracle survived to age 30 or 40, still working in the only trade they know — they try to keep the beef to a minimum. Gunshots are bad for business.



It was in the 1970s when drug use and the violent state of the neighborhood spurred a unique change among a small group of Puerto Rican women in West Kensington.

Explain the negatives of your neighborhood





     Most of Kensington is severely drug infested. I mean there is needles and other drug related items littered on the ground. It is littered with trash. There are prostitutes always under the el train at night.

      Rentals grew by 13 percent. Vacant lots are being cleaned up. The community is getting involved.

  3. What types of your industries were in your neighborhood? Textile industry, Factories, Carpet making

As of the 2010 Census Kensington was 38.9% Hispanic of any race, 37.4% non Hispanic white, 14.8% non Hispanic black, 6.2% Asian, and 2.7% . Deindustrialization eventually took its hold on the neighborhood in the 1950s, leading to a significant population loss, high unemployment, economic decline, and the abandoning of home.  Some sections of the neighborhood have been revitalized in recent years.
